I installed boxee on my laptop last night to check it out and wow is that slick. If anyone is thinking about hooking an HTPC directly to their TV, this is probably the slickest front end you can use. According the wiki it's based on top of the XBMC program that has been around forever. It autoscans your HD for files, downloads coverart for everything, and generally looks professional. They are working on a Boxee box with D-link that I will look at very closely when it comes out. If you are considering putting something in your HT rack and don't need record options, you should look into this.

Basically. It also does music, pictures, and Netflix. Oh, and the most important thing it does is stream internet content. It has a ton of add-ons for streams. It can do Hulu with a hack. Basically it would take the place of me streaming content from my laptop to my PS3. It's a lot cooler than it sounds. Download it and take a gander.

It's good if you have ripped all your DVD's to a network drive or something. Also, for Video Casts (like TWiT.TV and Revision3.com). I still think it needs some work.

If you wanted to hook it up to a TV though I would consider the Boxee Box (coming in November) rather than hooking up a full on PC.

I've plugged it into my tv, it's not bad and you can use your iphone or touch to control it like a remote.

I bought a cheap windows remote ($3 on Woot) and it works great with Boxee. We canceled cable 2 months ago and set up Boxee and utorrent RSS feeds for our shows. I started ripping DVDs and so far everything is fantastic. My only gripe is with DVDDecrypter and not Boxee itself.

I am getting very close to do this too. Amazon has TV shows for 99 cents each and you can re-watch, ESPN3.com is ok has live Lakers games.

I think when the BoxeeBox comes out if that is decent I might take the plunge.
